We're almost ready...

Published: 14 April 2006

The Glasgow Guide Gallery (Beta) is something I have been wanting to add to the site for a while and I'm almost there now. Most of the user interface work has now been done to create the gallery and import the photographs (not to mention take thousands of photographs!). There is still quite a bit of back-end (mainly database) work still to be done to index and categorise the images to allow for advanced searching.

I have decided though at this stage to release the GGG to the public and to continue working on oustanding behind-the-scenes work. Thus far there are 3788 images in the gallery, but this number will increase rapidly.

The GGG has numerous features - including a e-commerce engine to sell high-res versions of the images, which I have not yet decided whether to use - however, the 2 main feature I want to draw your attention to are:

1. The 'My Lightbox' feature allows you to create your own, customised album from amny image in the gallery. To use 'My Lightbox' you have to register and sign-in and the system will be able to store your lightbox additions for you to come back to. You can add and delete images from your light box by clicking the +/- icons below each image.

2. The GGG contains a powerful postcard engine which allows you to select ANY image in the gallery and send it to someone as a postcard..simply click the 'Send Postcard' icon at the top of any image page and follow the instructions from there.

As always, have fun!

GG.
